The orphaned children of the Awi Zone, Ethiopia now have a safe haven to call home! The planning for this center began three years ago during our inaugural visit to Ethiopia. It was on this trip Brittany's Hope Foundation was approached by the local community to build an orphan care center due to the overwhelming number of orphaned children. With no organization providing a safe haven for the abandoned, Brittany's Hope Foundation responded quickly and answered the call.
One of the children's homes
This was the first full scale construction project that Brittany's Hope had undertaken. During the process we experienced the expected delays and a few complications; however, at the time of writing this report, the project stands completed. The plans for the Orphan Care Center had been based upon the family model with a trained caretaker living with each group of children. For purposes of training, BHF partnered with an Australian organization (also doing work in Ethiopia), The Grace Centre, who serve to appropriately train and supervise the children's caregivers. Just recently, BHF has received our licensing and the center began to house, care, feed, educate, support, and love the children!
Brittany's Hope representatives visited Ethiopia to view the children's completed center. Our various partners, and local community, conducted an opening ceremony with the attendees including local officials and churches. All members present were very supportive and extremely excited to see the center completed.
The children at the center
In totality we completed a protective fence, guard house, four children's homes, kitchen, cafeteria, caretaker's residence, and laundry rooms. This is phase one of our long term plans but it is ready to house 20-40 children. At this time there are 19 children living at the center and all are in need of sponsor parents. If you would like to make a personal, ongoing difference in the life of one of these precious children, please contact the Humanitarian Aid Coordinator for more information regarding the sponsoring of an Ethiopian child from this center.
You may also make a difference in the lives of these Injibara children through making a donation toward Project Furnish! The center is still in need of many items to furnish all buildings and thus, turning an open structure into a warm and welcoming home for all present and future children to come.
