Babies slept in cockroach-infested wooden cribs in an orphanage in Haiti. With our help, 100 new metal cribs with mattresses and bedding were installed there. In a Vietnamese children's house, an infant's finger was caught in a rusty crib latch and had to be amputated. Brittany's Cribs has provided new cribs to orphanages in Africa, Haiti, China, and Vietnam. Your gift will give cribs, mattresses, bedding, and educational crib toys to infants in need of a safe place to sleep and spend their days.

Special Project 2:
House of Love

The House of Love orphanage in Cam Ranh, Vietnam provides food, medical care, and education to 58 children who live there and others in the surrounding community. Sponsors provide donations for food, clothing, medicine, and education... and in return they receive letters, photos, artwork, and love from the children. More children are abandoned at the orphanage every month, so the need for sponsors continues to grow. Because sponsors provide funds for the children's care, Brittany's Hope is able to focus on larger projects within the orphanage, such as repairs, purchasing livestock and garden supplies, and doctor or hospital visits.
Gift: any amount, or sponsor a child for $35 or $50 per month.

HOPE Project
Helping Orphans by Providing Education

Zemenu, a HOPE Project sponsorship recipient

Frightened eight-year-old Zemenu was caring for his mother at a rural hospital when she died of malaria. Compassionate clinic workers permitted him to live at the hospital for the next ten years. Now a hard-working young man with dreams of becoming a doctor, Zemenu wrote a letter to apply to the HOPE Project: "We are losing young children to curable diseases. This is the blueprints in my mind, and this is my heartache. I feel I can do something to help them." A Brittany's Hope representative met Zemenu while traveling in Ethiopia and was impressed with his calm demeanor and resolution to help the children of his country. With a HOPE grant to sponsor his schooling, Zemenu is attending Hayat Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and proudly looks forward to his future as a physician. Orphans who receive higher education or learn trade skills are empowered to determine the course of their lives. Several more orphans are being considered for HOPE project grants.

Child-specific Grants

Adopting a child internationally is costly, and the expenses don't stop after a child comes home. Special needs children sometimes require medical care and special services to reach their potential. We believe that families wishing to adopt a special child shouldn't endure overwhelming financial hardship. We place grants on special needs children available for adoption through our affiliate adoption agencies. So far, over 300 children have found their forever families with the help of Brittany's Hope grants.

Nutrition Program

Gambella, Ethiopia has a long history of ethnic struggles. The resulting tension has had a terrible impact on the children there. In 2009, Birttany's Hope built the Gambella Center to feed and educate over 200 children in the community, including 75 orphans. In addition to the Gambella Center, Brittany's Hope supports nutrition centers in Vietnam and Uganda. Our mission in 2010 is to expand the program to feed more children.
Gift: $25 to feed a child for a month, $300 to feed a child for a year.

Medical Interventions

Giang, a four year old orphan in Vietnam, needed surgery to correct a defect in her heart. Without medical insurance or the means to pay for the surgery, her foster family appealed to Brittany's Hope for help. Giang's surgery was a success and today she is a happy, healthy little girl. The Brittany's Hope Medical Intervention Program matches our resources with doctors and humanitarian organizations already working in-country overseas, stretching important funds farther to reach more children. They receive the medical services they need and can heal in a familiar environment.

Orphan Care Village, Ethiopia

In Injibara, Ethiopia, abandoned orphans wander the roads, looking for food and a safe place to sleep. They often form groups for protection, with the older children looking after the younger ones. The Orphan Care Village is under construction on a plot of land donated by local officials. Phase I is nearly complete. When it is finished, the orphanage will have clean water, living spaces and schoolrooms, sanitary and kitchen facilities, a garden, and a playground. Brittany's Hope is funding temporary housing for orphans until the Orphan Care Village opens.
