Waiting Children: Caribbean

C00023
This baby is a sweet and loving little child who responds to affection very well. He has a condition which limits his ability to control all of his movements. He appears to be very bright and his eyes sparkle with intellect and love, but hs is not physciall developing normally. He arms move erratically sometimes and he has very little muscle tone or control. His current volunteer works with him extensively and we have seen some improvements in his ability to sit for short periods of time (with assistance) and hold his head up. He is noticeably thin and underweight for his age. He will be seeing a doctor to determine whether his problems are muscular or neurological so that we can get a clearer diagnosis. He is a lovely baby and needs a family who can accept him unconditionally.

Joy
I have found my forever family!
Joy is a fun and gregarious girl with a good sense of humor and likes to tell jokes. She has a beautiful smile and an expressive face, and she talks a lot. She enjoys singing and dancing, and often initiates activities. She was brought into care in 1998 and was treated for malaria shortly afterwards. Her first test for syphilis was positive, but recent lab tests were negative for syphilis. Her tuberculosis skin test was positive but a June 2005 x-ray was negative, so she may have only been exposed to tuberculosis. Joy is otherwise healthy and very active and likes to play with the other girls in her group home. She likes school, although she can get distracted while doing her homework. She seems to enjoy math more than reading. She is also described as polite, inventive and strong willed at times.

Amanda
I have found my forever family!
This hard-working girl follows through with her work and is a big help to her housemother. She is currently reported to be in good health. Her first test for syphilis was positive, but recent lab tests were negative for syphilis. An organized 12-year-old girl, she likes to keep her room clean and neat, and makes her bed before going to school. She is learning French, remembers a few English words, and is said to be “doing okay” in school. She likes to play with the other girls in her group home, and enjoys braiding their hair- she can do some very intricate styles! Often the leader of the group, she feels comfortable addressing the other girls’ behaviors and giving directions. She came into care at about 4 years of age and is reported to have had a possible seizure once in the past. A family who has parented past her age and has previous adoption experience is needed for this wonderful girl. The agency fees have been reduced.
