Waiting Children: Southeast Asia
Walker
This determined little boy came into care in June 2007 after multiple placements and allegations of abuse. His birthmother is HIV positive and following his birth he was was treated and has since tested negative for HIV. She also smoked and took 3 to 4 amphetamine tablets daily until her third month of pregnancy. He currently is living with a foster family and has been diagnosed with ADHD, that is treated with medication and therapy. His teachers say that his attention span is improving but he does need special attention in the classroom. His foster mother says that he is a thoughtful boy who goes to school every day with enthusiasm. He is responsible and can complete small chores around the house. He enjoys playing football with the neighborhood boys and climbing outside. He also attends speech therapy to improve his pronunciation skills. He is described as a child who does not give up easily and always tries his best. This spirited boy needs a family who have parented past his age, who have experience with ADHD and who understand the impact on children of multiple caregivers.
