About The Palbicki-Burke Family
Christopher & Shona
My wife and I met in New York City in the summer of 2008. After living in Manhattan for a few years – and upon the completion of Shona’s Master’s program in Education at Colombia University – we decided to relocate to the Twin Cities in July 2011. With marriage and family on the foreseeable horizon, we wanted to move to an urban are with fewer people and one that had easy access to nature. Minneapolis / Saint Paul fits the bill perfectly. As outdoor enthusiasts, we wanted to raise a child in the best possible environment.
In February of 2021 we were matched with a beautiful 16-month-old girl named Shrishti. Born with bilateral cleft lip and palate, thus far Shrishti has undergone several surgical procedures and will require more once she arrives in the United States. Further medical costs are almost a certainty: speech therapy services, orthodontics, as well as the potential for fascial plastic surgery . . . all resulting in fees for specialized medical care that go well and above the normal expenses of raising a child. Expenses aside, my wife and I are very excited to welcome Shrishti into our home as soon as possible.

What is a Brittany's Hope Adoption Grant?
Brittany’s Hope believes in the fundamental right of all children to have the security and love of a family. There are an estimated 153 million orphans living around the world (UNICEF – 02/2011). These staggering statistics are heartbreaking considering a large number of these children are special needs, who have little or no value in the eyes of their own country. They are left to languish in institutions, where they receive minimal care and live hopeless, helpless lives.
The cost of international adoption can be overwhelming and is only further compounded by the medical and accessibility costs a child with special needs presents. Our Adoption Grant Program provides grant monies while giving families the opportunity to assist Brittany’s Hope in raising funds so the next child may also be united with their forever family. The phrase “It takes a village to raise a child,” takes on new meaning as the “seeds” of the adoptive family’s friends, family and neighbors take root and help provide future families with adoption grants. With a gift to Brittany’s Hope, a donor’s monetary support of the Adoption Grant Program means double for the adoptive family.
