Bauman Family Progress
Greetings! We are the Bauman family — Craig, Holly, Greyson, Wyatt, and Samanta — from Central Illinois, and we are excited to be raising money for Brittany’s Hope. Our story started in 2019 when we met our daughter, Samanta, during a summer hosting program with Colombia. We knew immediately she would be the perfect addition to our family.
Over the next several months, we completed mountains of paperwork, dozens of phone calls and visits, and hours of training – all while our financial obligations were building. As the process continued, it became evident we would need to apply for adoption grants, such as the Brittany’s Hope Adoption grant, to help us through the process. The rest of our process was anything but smooth, with two trips to Colombia and a total of seven weeks spent in-country. Without the financial support of adoption grants, we would not have been able to complete our adoption and bring home our Colombian princess.
Craig and I are training to complete the Dopey Challenge at Walt Disney World in January 2023. We will be running a 5K, 10K, Half-Marathon, and Full-Marathon in four days, for a total of 48.6 miles – which is crazy. To get us ready for the challenge, we will be training over the next five months and logging about 500 miles each – a total of 1,000 miles running.
We thought, why not use our training to “Pay it Forward,” to bless by another family who is going through the adoption process. As we run, you can contribute your gifts to each mile we complete. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for the Brittany’s Hope Adoption Grant program. We traveled 2,661 miles (one-way) to bring Samanta home, so training a total of 1,000 miles should be a walk in the park.
We are asking you to sponsor our 1,000 miles of training runs, in any increment (or a flat donation). Every gift received will bring another son or daughter home, closer to their forever family. It takes a village to raise a child and you can be a part of a family’s story, on their road to adoption.

What is a Brittany's Hope Adoption Grant?
Brittany’s Hope believes in the fundamental right of all children to have the security and love of a family. There are an estimated 153 million orphans living around the world (UNICEF – 02/2011). These staggering statistics are heartbreaking considering a large number of these children are special needs, who have little or no value in the eyes of their own country. They are left to languish in institutions, where they receive minimal care and live hopeless, helpless lives.
The cost of international adoption can be overwhelming and is only further compounded by the medical and accessibility costs a child with special needs presents. Our Adoption Grant Program provides grant monies while giving families the opportunity to assist Brittany’s Hope in raising funds so the next child may also be united with their forever family. The phrase “It takes a village to raise a child,” takes on new meaning as the “seeds” of the adoptive family’s friends, family and neighbors take root and help provide future families with adoption grants. With a gift to Brittany’s Hope, a donor’s monetary support of the Adoption Grant Program means double for the adoptive family.
